Raven Taylor

LOMA Behavior and Training

History
Raven Taylor has been a dog trainer for 4 years. She started with LOMA in 2022 and is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed and Fear Free Certified Professional. She is also an AKC Canine Good Citizenship Evaluator. Raven has a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with a minor in Business Administration from the University of Texas at San Antonio. She plans to further her education towards focusing on animal behavior so she can help all types of species beyond dogs.
She began in the pet care department at PetSmart and fell in love with training. She has always had an intense love for animals and knew early on that she wanted her career to involve them. Growing up, she was the child bringing home strays and asking her family to keep them.
She has a 2 year old, 100 pound, American bulldog mix named Helix as well as 3 snakes, a leopard gecko, and a 7 year old cat named Ishizu.
Raven works with puppies, impulse control/obedience cases and leash reactivity clients. She is the lead trainer for our Puppy Social group socialization class. Her favorite thing about being a dog trainer is helping people bond and communicate better with their pets. Raven works under the supervision of Dr.Martinez.

Training Philosophy
LOMA Behavior and Training specializes in resolving and preventing behavior concerns. We work with dogs, puppies, and cats. Your pets will benefit from our fear free and force free training. You will benefit from expert advice and effective solutions. Together we will treat, train and transform your pet.

Services

  • Dog Behavior
anxiety, fear, growling, snapping, lunging, bites, in- home fighting, fence fighting, OCD
  • Puppy Training
socialization, nipping, jumping, chewing, pulling, potty training, house & crate training, handling
  • Cat Behavior
litter box issues, hissing, scratching, dog-cat integration, night time vocalization, spraying

Standard Package
After you have completed your behavior assessment, the standard is a 5 session package. Each lesson is 60 minutes. During each lesson, we teach your pet each training skill, show you how to accomplish the skill with your pet, and provide you with detailed handouts and homework using our special training app.
The types of training sessions (Zoom, in person or a combination of both) is determined at the behavior assessment. This will depend on your pet’s age, behavior concerns and your training goals. Dogs that have intense reactions to strangers, for example, are better cases via Zoom because they will be too anxious, fearful or too distracted by the presence of a trainer. Instead your trainer will walk you through exercises that will be beneficial for when a trainer does come to your home.

Transform Your Rowdy Rover
When your loving companion turns into a barking and lunging maniac on leash, we know it can make you feel frustrated, embarrassed or afraid. We can transform your walks into a calm and confident stroll.
With our Transform Your Rowdy Rover 7 week program, we come to your home to work directly with your dog 4 times a week. Then we show you how to maintain what your dog has learned. Your role is easy. You get a step-by-step guide to follow when we are not there so there’s no confusion while your dog is being trained by one of our behavior specialists.

Monthly Membership
After you have completed your behavior assessment, your trainer will determine if this is a good option for your pet. Our monthly membership training (MMT) sessions are ideal for dogs that will need support over a period of time. This is a great option for families with young puppies who will be developing and maturing until they are adults. Getting support for your dog’s training during the most challenging time of a dog’s life (from puppyhood through adolescence) will help you build a foundation for a lifetime companion. This is also a good option for dogs who have complicated or long-standing behavior issues that will need on-going practice.

By Your Side Program
Enjoy watching your puppy learn but need the support of your very own puppy training expert to get you through the sticky parts of training? Then this program is for you. We train with you and your pup each week to meet the needs of your puppy and achieve your specific goals. Our puppy experts work by your side with you and your puppy! Homework is made easy and fun! We check in with you frequently to ensure you are making progress and moving toward your goals.

Do It For Me Program
Have a busy schedule and need to get right to the results? Then this program is best. Unlike Board and Train where your puppy lives in an unfamiliar place, your puppy stays in your home where he should be. Our puppy training expert works with your puppy several times a week. Training is efficient and effective. Then we meet with you once a week to show you how to use what your puppy has learned. You can watch the trainer at work or go about your day on other projects.

Rescue Outreach Services
We provide many services to the local non-profit animal shelter and rescue community at discounted costs. To be eligible for these services, a rescue group or shelter representative is responsible for payment on behalf of a foster volunteer or new adopter.

Lorraine Martinez, Ph.D.

Lorraine Martinez, Ph.D., owner of LOMA Behavior and Training LLC, has been helping dogs and their people since 2002. She is a dog behavior consultant (non veterinary) affiliate member of the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior. Dr. Martinez came into the animal training field after earning her Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Washington-Seattle, one of the best schools of behavioral psychology in the country. After adopting a dog showing aggressive behavior to other dogs she sought dog training help. That's when she learned the field was filled with misconceptions about how animals learn and how behavior is changed. Dr. Martinez decided to use her knowledge of behavioral psychology to help pet owners get easy to understand information about dog training that relied on the long history of research in the field, rather than the myths that were so common.

She went on to graduate with distinction from the rigorous Karen Pryor Academy Dog Trainer Professional Program. As part of the Greater St. Louis Training Club, she developed the first specialized program for dogs showing fearful and aggressive behavior. Dr. Martinez worked as the Behavior and Training Department Supervisor for the Humane Society of Missouri and served as a consultant with the ASPCA Anti-Cruelty Behavior Team, assisting with rehabilitation of dogs rescued from dog fighting seizures.

Dr. Martinez has a special spot in her heart for pit bulls. She adopted Dolly from one of the largest dog fighting raids in history - called the MO 500 dogs. Dolly was one of the most playful puppies from all the 500 dogs seized. She continued to be one of the funnest, happiest, and most loving dogs throughout her life.

She helped our incredibly frightened rescue puppy to grow into a confident, disciplined dog. She is kind, compassionate and cares deeply about what she does. Her exercises are fun for the dog and the family keeping everyone engaged and encouraged!"- Debbie M.
"Stephanie was the trainer who led the group training classes I took with my goldendoodle named Friday. I was a first-time dog owner, and Stephanie taught me how to train Friday, made sure we socialized Friday with other dogs, and made sure we had fun doing it. I travel a lot for work, and Stephanie would also dog-sit, taking Friday into her own home. I felt so comfortable leaving Friday in Stephanie's care because she reinforced all of the training and followed the same rules I have at my house. Plus Friday loves Stephanie and her family and loved getting more social time with other dogs. Stephanie is caring, responsible, trustworthy - and did I mention fun?!?! You can't go wrong with training and/or pet setting with her."- Stacey N.
"Review on training: Stephanie is super passionate about dogs. She is an excellent dog trainer. She helped trained my puppy to the wonderful dog she is now. Stephanie is such a wonderful person and so easy to talk to. 5 stars!!!"- Victoria L.
"I am thrilled to give Stephanie Garza a five-star review and highly recommend her training and pet sitting services. Stephanie taught my very first Puppy Class and was my introduction to obedience training and positive behavior reinforcement. She is a highly competent instructor with a warm, genuine heart. She not only teaches her puppy and people students their first commands, she explains the puppy thought process that helps you, the owner, understand and bond with your pet. I didn't hesitate to leave my 6 month old puppy with Stephanie for a week when I left town to meet my new grandson. I knew he was in the sweet, caring hands of Stephanie. I also knew that the hard work we had invested in training would be reinforced while he was in her care. Stephanie Garza is a gem - I wish I could give her TEN stars!!"- Jennifer P.
