start training puppyIf you ask yourself – when should I start training my puppy? We have a short answer for you — as soon as your puppy comes home. Your priorities should be potty training and socialisation. Socialisation is extremely important as after the 16th week the socialisation window is closing and fear starts developing.

It’s important to note that socialization doesn’t just mean exposing your puppy to other dogs and people. It also means getting them used to different environments, sounds, and objects. You can take your puppy to different places like parks, pet stores, and busy streets. This will help your puppy become more confident and less fearful in new situations. Additionally, you can introduce your puppy to various sounds like thunder, fireworks, and vacuum cleaners to help them get accustomed to different noises.

Remember that puppies have a short attention span. So keep the training sessions short and finish before your dog loses focus. You can do a few sessions per day.

Length of the training session:

  • 2 months puppy — 2 minutes
  • 3 months — 3 minutes
  • 4 months — 4 minutes

In addition to keeping the training sessions short, it’s also important to make them fun and engaging for your puppy. Use positive reinforcement techniques like treats, toys, and verbal praise to motivate your puppy to learn. Also, try to vary the training sessions by introducing new commands and activities. This will help keep your puppy interested and engaged in the training process. Lastly, be patient and consistent with your training. It may take some time for your puppy to learn new behaviors, but with consistent training, they will eventually get the hang of it.
