Customer Reviews
Alex, Blayne & Doug: “Nee has been a member of ‘Team Doug’ since 2011, helping us enjoy our beautiful boy and give him a happy, healthy life…whether it’s about socialising, exercise, games, building up his core muscles or rest time. Doug just loves her. As soon as he sees her, his tail speeds up, faster and faster and he can’t wait to run to greet her.
When the whole family moved to New Zealand and back again to Singapore, Nee helped us prepare Doug for both journeys. He arrived safe and well in his new home in New Zealand, where he settled immediately. When we returned to Singapore and the process had to be repeated…no surprise, that on arrival, our boy burst out of his travel crate, full of life and ready to explore yet another new home, showing us that life’s challenges can be viewed as adventures when you’re well prepared.
As we navigate Doug’s senior years (but shhhh, don’t tell him as so far he hasn’t noticed he’s getting older) he attends some of Nee’s lessons in a support capacity. To humans this means helping out. To Doug it means being told how clever he is and getting lots of attention. He loves it… he calmly meets and greets a wide range of dogs, helping some who may be nervous to build their confidence too. Nee constantly pushes herself to learn more about animal and dog behaviour. Her methods are kind, force-free and they work. Dogs blossom with Nee, and I think she has made my husband and I into more thoughtful humans too…”

Zhihui, Alex & Gobi: “Dog training via Zoom was a novel concept for us. But it proved effective, as we planned to move overseas and could make use of future online lessons even in a different country.
Gobi has extreme reactivity to several triggers, a lot of which occur in our home. What stood out for us was how detailed and patient Nee was. She was extremely meticulous in carefully setting up each scenario during our training sessions – we’re appreciative of her setting the right pace and not pushing Gobi into uncomfortable situations. Nee focused not only on training Gobi, but also on helping us understand Gobi better.
We’ve worked through some of Gobi’s fears and triggers. Where a simple action like getting Gobi to walk outside was almost like fighting a war with him, we have learnt to help Gobi slowly venture out of the house, and now he looks forward to his walks every night! It’s not been easy having a big and fearful dog like Gobi, but it can be manageable with the right skills and training. We’re grateful to Nee for all the support and guidance, and in cheering us on when we celebrate each small win with Gobi …”

Felicia, Silver & Gracey: “I got Silver and Gracey while I was overseas where fear-free trainers weren’t available. The trainer I engaged employed methods that relied on force which I was uncomfortable with. I was very concerned with Silver’s behaviour as he has lashed out at people when he felt threatened. Gracey is also reactive to other dogs and fast movements. Walking both together pose a challenge.
I was very grateful to work with Nee when we returned to Singapore. Nee built up an excellent rapport with Silver and Gracey. She’s very careful to keep sessions fun and stress-free for us, to ensure that the dogs have a good memory of the activity, whether it’s meeting new people or dogs, or exploring a new environment. Gracey is now a lot less reactive to other dogs, and Silver relaxes in new environments faster. It’s much easier to walk them together as I’m able to get their attention quickly.
Nee also coaches Silver and Gracey in canine fitness. They (and I) greatly enjoy the exercises – Silver and Gracey get excited when I set up my laptop and webcam for the online sessions! The fitness sessions are a good bonding opportunity for me and my dogs. I’ve learnt not to underestimate their abilities or prejudge outcomes as they constantly perform beyond my expectations. I was pleasantly surprised that Gracey, who was always slower at picking up new tricks than Silver, learnt complex movements much faster than Silver. It’s a good reminder that they’re distinct individuals with their own strengths and talents.
As my dogs travel with me, Nee has also provided invaluable support to ensure that we make the move for the dogs as stress-free as possible, both for our previous move to Singapore, as well as for an impending move overseas…”

Valerie & Koda: “My favourite part is that Nee didn’t just focus on “training the dog”, she also taught me how to understand Koda better, to read her body language and to build a relationship with Koda so that we could communicate better. She customised every session so that we could work on things that were a priority for Koda instead of a cookie cutter class template. We have worked through many of Koda’s fears, Nee remains ever approachable, even just to share our “wags” (achievements) with…”

Kris, Constance, Kiko, Yuko & Suki: “Suki & Constance had the opportunity to experience two trainers who advocated force-free training. Whereas the lessons under the first trainer were a bit stressful and serious, Nee made our lessons fun and exciting! …”

Yvonne & Princess: “Nee has offered constant support and guidance through our tumultuous journey – of dog reactivity, noise reactivity, separation anxiety, to name a few. In the words of Lilo and Stitch, ‘Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten.’ We are truly fortunate to have found such a family! …”

Melissa, Ling Fong & Ding: “Thank you, Nee, for giving us the invaluable gift of insight into Ding’s world, backed by science and compassion. Ding may not know it, but we are certain you made the greatest impact to his life, by providing us with the tools to help him live a happy, enriched doggy life. We will use these tools well! …”

Lauren & Piko: “Piko spent 6 precious years with us. Over these years, Nee has become part of our extended family. Nee went over and beyond the call of a dog trainer and was with us from day 1 (when I wrote in desperation for help with a dog I didn’t know how to control), up until the very last day (when Piko passed away). From student, Piko became part of Nee’s classes and just as other dogs and guardians helped Piko, we were glad to be able to pay it forward to help other dogs. The cheerfuldogs family and community is a close-knit one, with positive and kind vibes all round. Even though Piko can no longer be with us, the lessons have etched fond “forever” memories that fill our hearts in Piko’s absence. We highly recommend Nee to all dog guardians looking for dog training and wellness that ticks all the boxes …”

Elisa & Happy: “I believe that maintaining a physically healthy and fit body is the key to aging well and comfortably. I did what I thought was the best for Happy. I insisted on long walks in an attempt to keep him fit, simply because I thought that walking is the way to go to exercise my dog physically. Happy stopped enjoying his walks, and when I took out his leash, he would choose to lie down or hide instead of coming to the door. I was perplexed and sad to see a sad Happy.
That’s when I approached Nee for help. I signed up for the cheerfuldogs Canine Fitness Programme, and boy, that was the best thing I could have done for Happy! It was refreshing to see him enjoying his exercises. Nee not only taught us the way to exercise Happy safely and effectively with the various fitness equipment, but most importantly she showed me how to have fun with Happy so that we both look forward to the exercises. I have bonded so much with Happy, and it was sooo satisfying to see Happy’s muscles toning up. By giving him a choice of different exercise options, Happy also started enjoying his walks again! I am glad I took the leap and will not hesitate to recommend this canine fitness programme to our other canine pals!! …”

Abigail, Delwin & Bruno: “When we were looking for a puppy trainer for Bruno, it was difficult to find reputable, certified dog trainers who really use positive reinforcement in Singapore. Many dog trainers mix the use of treats with punitive techniques. We didn’t want to have Bruno “obey” us because he was afraid of being punished, but because he finds responding to us enjoyable. We truly appreciate the force-free and fear free training approach that Kang Nee uses at cheerfuldogs.com …”

Abby & Bagel: “The first time Bagel lashed out at a dog, I was shocked and completely perplexed. I didn’t know why, what to do, or how to prevent it – we stopped going out to play altogether, which made both Bagel and I quite sad.
Having a fearful dog isn’t easy, but at every step of the way, Nee has been incredibly patient and helpful; always ready to offer advice, always ready to walk us through what needs to be done, always ready to slow things down so Bagel could learn at her own pace. Under her guidance, Bagel has made so much improvement, we still have a ways to go, but she has given us the skills to properly deal with any stressful situation – not just with dogs.Thank you for having our backs throughout it all….”

Louise, Don, Elliot & Korn: “We’ve really benefited from the cheerfuldogs Canine Fitness Programme! With guidance from our fitness coach, Nee, we achieved results with Elliot and Korn that we never thought we could, especially as we’re in New Zealand and Nee is in Singapore! …”

Darren, Jade & Royal: “Nee was extremely patient with Royal the entire time and always knew exactly what to do with every issue! She really took her time to explain things thoroughly, and to follow up to make sure we were keeping on track with Royal’s training. It has been such a joy working with Nee and we would highly recommend her to all our dog loving friends! …”

Winifred, Kevin & Kobee: “Nee has been a superb help by teaching us “love and food” techniques without using fear. These techniques worked well with Kobee, in all aspects of our daily activities with him. Thank you, Nee! You have made a great positive impact in our relationship with Kobee!”

Arthur, Eileen & Kosmo: “Kosmo is growing to become a more confident family member, trusting us. He’s learning to be in a happier place where he doesn’t view people and the outside world with suspicion. He has learnt how to show and more importantly accept our affections. Thank you Dr Kang, for creating a much safer and happier household for Kosmo! …”

Margaret & Rose: “We have always felt nothing but confidence in Nee. She approaches everything with patience, understanding and a scientific background. I have recommended and continue to recommend her to many friends and even strangers I have seen who have been having issues with their dogs …”

Chin Kong, Minako, Ming Ming & Non-Chan: “Non-Chan is the first dog in our family and we enlisted Nee’s help to train him. She has passion and a natural rapport with dogs, and just as importantly, with us humans. Like a good teacher, she was gentle, loving and patient to both beast and man. She was very knowledgeable and clarified many questions as we tried to figure out the facts and fiction of dog behaviour, nutrition and training …”

Susan & Sugar: “Sugar had never lived in a city as densely populated as Singapore, nor had she ever lived in an apartment. She got scared easily and did not like being around other dogs or people. Thanks to Nee’s wonderful, careful training, Sugar was able to adapt well. I am very grateful to Nee for her assistance. She made a big difference in the quality of my life during my assignment in Singapore …”

Who are the dog trainers listed on this page?

We have created a directory of licensed dog trainers specializing in positive reinforcement methods. These trainers are not affiliated with Dogo, and all information is gathered from publicly available sources. Each profile provides a brief overview of the trainer's experience and expertise.

How can I select the right trainer for my dog?

Start by evaluating your dog's needs and identifying your training objectives. Each trainer's profile provides insights into their areas of expertise. Match these with your dog's character and your goals to find the ideal fit.

How do I ensure these trainers are competent?

All trainers listed here are certified professionals with extensive knowledge of positive reinforcement techniques.

Why is positive reinforcement emphasized, and what is it?

Positive reinforcement centers on rewarding preferred behaviors, ensuring a pleasant learning journey for your dog. This humane approach is scientifically proven to be the most effective long-term training method, strengthening the bond between you and your pet. By consistently rewarding good behavior, your dog learns to associate actions with positive outcomes, leading to lasting improvements and a happier companion.

Are these trainers equipped to address specific behavioral problems?

Yes, they are. Our trainers are adept in basic obedience or intricate behavioral challenges. Browse their profiles to identify a trainer who specializes in the particular issues you wish to address.

How do I initiate a training program with a trainer?

Simply click on the preferred trainer's profile to access their contact details. From there, you can get in touch to discuss your requirements and set up training appointments.

How do group sessions differ from private ones?

Group sessions offer a communal setting where your dog learns general obedience alongside other dogs. In contrast, private sessions grant focused attention, making them perfect for targeted behavior modifications or individualized training agendas.

Which training techniques do these trainers abstain from?

All our trainers are committed to positive reinforcement techniques and steer clear of any harsh or punitive methods. Their primary goal is to make training a joyous journey for you and your dog.

When can I expect to see results using positive reinforcement training?

Results depend on factors like your dog's nature, the specific behaviors in question, and your training consistency. While many clients observe improvements in just a few sessions, it's crucial to be patient and persistent.

Can I attend a training session to observe before committing?

Reach out to the trainer you're interested in to discuss possibly attending a session. It's a great way to get a feel for their approach and see if it aligns with your expectations.
