Liz Geisen
Liz has been fascinated with dogs and cats and their behavior for as long as she can remember. It wasn't until she volunteered and later worked for a humane society that she realized that she had a passion for a career in animal care and welfare. Liz has worked with Dr. Jokela since 2007, First as a certified veterinary assistant in Dr. Jokela's general veterinary practice. Ten years later, in 2017 she joined Dr. Jokela at CVBC as Dr. Jokela's behavior consultation assistant and trainer. Liz has studied at Purdue University in the veterinary technician program. She is a Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner, and has completed their Puppy Start Right and Shelter Enrichment courses.
Training Philosophy
Liz loves working with puppies and kittens, but it is the dogs and cats that have been abandoned and discarded that she feels the deepest calling to help. Working with shelter and rescue dogs, who often have some trauma behind them, are her favorite students. They have had their world shattered for one reason or another, and yet they still are hanging on to that hope that one day someone will come and love them like they were meant to be loved. To Liz, when she can help build that bond of trust again, it is an amazing feeling!

“I just want to thank you and your staff! I honestly don't know that Louie would have been able to stay in my home if you hadn't helped him! It wasn't an easy road in the beginning and was very stressful everyday. I am and will be forever grateful to all of you for all that you have done for my family and Louie. I couldn't imagine not having him in my life!”— Heather
“With your guidance and direction on understanding how a dog learns with positive training, our world turned around. Not only has it changed my dog's life, but mine too!!!” — Ralph & Liz
“I never would have figured out the skills I'd need to work with Arlo on my own, and I had no idea how damaging the common advice can be. I consider myself (and Arlo!) incredibly lucky to have found this team.”

All trainers listed here are certified professionals with extensive knowledge of positive reinforcement techniques.
Positive reinforcement centers on rewarding preferred behaviors, ensuring a pleasant learning journey for your dog. This humane approach is scientifically proven to be the most effective long-term training method, strengthening the bond between you and your pet. By consistently rewarding good behavior, your dog learns to associate actions with positive outcomes, leading to lasting improvements and a happier companion.
