Customer Reviews
Terry Brittian: When Laurie took over the training of my 9-month old puppy, he had already been through 2 rounds of puppy school. Obviously, they had been failures. Laurie showed us how to get him under control using positive reinforcement as his main reward. He now walks pretty well on his leash, sits and stays for a good 10 minutes and is nicer around other dogs.
Ingrid Copeland: Smart Dog U really helped me deal with my first puppy and help me grow her (Etta) into a sweet little girl. Without that training from SDU this would have been a tough journey.
Patty Burke: Laurie's group class was perfect for my distractible social butterfly pup (aptly named Zippy)! Her positive training methods make learning as much fun for the humans as for the dogs. Training is a lifelong (daily) bonding adventure, with Laurie's newsletters, videos and Facebook page providing terrific reinforcement.
Beth Schillaci: We did in-home training and group classes which helped us welcome Ember into our family. Her understanding of both dogs and busy families made the training easy and guilt-free.
Matt Church: Thank goodness I discovered Smart Dog University! Laurie's methods quickly made me realize that I was the one in need of training. The end result: A well behaved pup (Kasey) who is a true companion!
Debra Ekman, Your Dog's Friend: Laurie is someone Your Dog's Friend depends on for good information on dog behavior and training presented in an engaging, understandable way. She has done free workshops for us; we have used her articles in our newsletter; and she is a trainer whom I can refer people to with total confidence.
Suzie Brown: Laurie is a very knowledgeable and experienced trainer. She does a wonderful job with both the dog and owner. She is easily approachable and genuinely wants to make sure you and your dog are getting the most out of her classes.
Ann Carlson: Working in the veterinary field has shown me how important positive reinforcement training for dogs is. When it came time to train my own dog, Quincy, Smart Dog University was my choice for training. Laurie is a calm force and true dog lover! Two years later I am still using positive reinforcement clicker training to reinforce good behavior and deter unwanted behavior. Almost anytime I have my Quincy out, people comment on how well behaved he is-a true testament of Laurie's training methods!
Jenny Croghan: Our family used Laurie Luck and Smart Dog University for training both of our very active labs. Laurie was amazing at helping our entire family learn to train and work with the dogs. The most helpful thing for us about both the group classes and in-home training was Laurie's ability to make the training techniques work in real life situations. Thank you so much Laurie!
Stephanie Pettey: Gracie participated in two classes. Laurie is very knowledgable about dog training, very patient with owners and clearly loves her work. I especially remember the lesson about the settle mat. Laurie kept telling me to 'wait, wait, she will figure it out.' Sure enough, Gracie figured it out and scooted her little butt backwards to the mat. Click, treat!!! I was so tickled at my baby dog!!! I would highly recommend puppy classes with Laurie.
Robin Brown: The knowledge SDU provided is invaluable. Laurie's willingness to share her calm logic and vast knowledge and patience about how to raise a happy dog (and happy dog people) has created harmony we did not have before. A big thanks to my sister who discovered this gem in the RUFF!

All trainers listed here are certified professionals with extensive knowledge of positive reinforcement techniques.
Positive reinforcement centers on rewarding preferred behaviors, ensuring a pleasant learning journey for your dog. This humane approach is scientifically proven to be the most effective long-term training method, strengthening the bond between you and your pet. By consistently rewarding good behavior, your dog learns to associate actions with positive outcomes, leading to lasting improvements and a happier companion.
