Carlie Seelig Miller

Carlie Seelig Miller has been deeply involved in many areas of the canine training field including pet dog training, shelter and rescue, competitive dog sports, and AKC Dog Shows; most recently delving into service dog training. Prior to becoming a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, Carlie spent many happy years with a career as a teacher. It was through dog training, however, that she discovered she could significantly and positively impact two species simultaneously. She now finds her passion in educating humans about canine cognition while training canines in cooperative behaviors to further enhance the human-animal bond.

Training Philosophy

Carlie's training philosophy is founded solidly on the science of canine cognition and learning theory. CSM Dog Training will partner with your family to help you understand the complex nature of your beloved canine and teach you the necessary skills to positively influence their behavior. Each training plan is meticulously tailored to your goals and your dog’s unique needs. Our comprehensive diagnostic approach accounts for overall health, daily environment, individual canine temperament, learning history, and future aspirations.
We are proud to operate our business with integrity and ask that our clients support us in this by following our policies. We follow LIMA (Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive) guidelines when training and making behavior modification protocols. This ensures you and your family receive meaningful education in canine behavior and that your dog receives precision training for optimal results.

Customer Reviews

We have the most big hearted, willing to please, clumsy 75 lb. golden retriever puppy ever. Thanks to Carlie’s expertise, knowledge and true love for each and every dog she works with, he remains big hearted, willing to please and clumsy — yet he has learned through positive rewarding how to stay safe and keep us all safe both on outdoor excursions and in our home. He knows how to greet visitors, where he is to rest and calm down, and when he can take over our bed.
We have the extra bonus of a 6 year old grandson who wants to play any form of ball all the time. Cooper is learning to find his place in these games, not guarding too hard or jumping on his non-furry playmate. This is all thanks to Carlie.
I used to not be able to walk my dog, Katy, in crowded places. Additionally, my husband and I couldn’t have people over because Katy would bark and stress every time we had company. When we moved to San Francisco, I knew something had to change. Having a big, shy dog who is also dog-reactive in this city was creating more havoc on Katy’s life and mine.
That’s when I met Carlie. She came over at least three times a week and helped Katy become more confident around all the stimuli the city has to offer. Eventually, Carlie began training me to help Katy in her progress.
Now, Katy and I can walk down the street with minimal stress. We can have people over. She is more relaxed, healthier, and happier than I’ve ever seen her. She will always be a little shy and withdrawn around certain people, and that’s okay. At least now that, thanks to Carlie, I know how to handle the situation appropriately. Carlie has truly changed mine and Katy’s life for the better. Thank you, Carlie!
I have lots to say about Ms Carlie! She’s a gifted trainer, a true professional, positive and fun, and a magician with the dogs and humans too! We took her Sirius puppy training course and she managed to identify each dog's needs very quickly and somehow managed to work with each of them individually on those areas. My husband and I were so impressed with her that we hired her 1-1 to help our puppy with separation anxiety. Oddly enough, she also helped my husband with puppy separation anxiety as well. Even after the training she continued to be a resource connecting us with a dog walker.
Sure, you could watch a gazillion you tube videos and try to do it yourself but she has a wealth of information and is very personable and creates a very calm, safe, and fun environment for the parents and puppies to learn. The training was worth every penny, not only the work that Carlie did with the dogs but the owner information she passed along. Stop reading this review and email her now! Seriously, I had to stop writing mostly cause I need to leave room for other reviews.

We've got the answers for your questions

Who are the dog trainers listed on this page?

We have created a directory of licensed dog trainers specializing in positive reinforcement methods. These trainers are not affiliated with Dogo, and all information is gathered from publicly available sources. Each profile provides a brief overview of the trainer's experience and expertise.

How can I select the right trainer for my dog?

Start by evaluating your dog's needs and identifying your training objectives. Each trainer's profile provides insights into their areas of expertise. Match these with your dog's character and your goals to find the ideal fit.

How do I ensure these trainers are competent?

All trainers listed here are certified professionals with extensive knowledge of positive reinforcement techniques.

Why is positive reinforcement emphasized, and what is it?

Positive reinforcement centers on rewarding preferred behaviors, ensuring a pleasant learning journey for your dog. This humane approach is scientifically proven to be the most effective long-term training method, strengthening the bond between you and your pet. By consistently rewarding good behavior, your dog learns to associate actions with positive outcomes, leading to lasting improvements and a happier companion.

Are these trainers equipped to address specific behavioral problems?

Yes, they are. Our trainers are adept in basic obedience or intricate behavioral challenges. Browse their profiles to identify a trainer who specializes in the particular issues you wish to address.

How do I initiate a training program with a trainer?

Simply click on the preferred trainer's profile to access their contact details. From there, you can get in touch to discuss your requirements and set up training appointments.

How do group sessions differ from private ones?

Group sessions offer a communal setting where your dog learns general obedience alongside other dogs. In contrast, private sessions grant focused attention, making them perfect for targeted behavior modifications or individualized training agendas.

Which training techniques do these trainers abstain from?

All our trainers are committed to positive reinforcement techniques and steer clear of any harsh or punitive methods. Their primary goal is to make training a joyous journey for you and your dog.

When can I expect to see results using positive reinforcement training?

Results depend on factors like your dog's nature, the specific behaviors in question, and your training consistency. While many clients observe improvements in just a few sessions, it's crucial to be patient and persistent.

Can I attend a training session to observe before committing?

Reach out to the trainer you're interested in to discuss possibly attending a session. It's a great way to get a feel for their approach and see if it aligns with your expectations.
