Andrea Marx CPDT-KA, CBCC-KA, CDBC
Andrea Marx started Freak on a Leash in 2015 because she is passionate about positive reinforcement training and teaching people the kindest ways of interacting with their dogs. She has been in the dog world for almost three decades. After spending her childhood consumed with horses, she got her first dog in college which began her journey in the world of training and more specifically dog sports, which became a primary focus for over 10 years. In 2009 she was exposed to the field of behavior analysis. This started an interest in the science of learning and behavior and a deeper dive into positive reinforcement and rewards-based training, eventually paving the way for her interest in professional training. She finds the study of behavior so fascinating and regularly continues her education in all things behavior modification.
Training Philosophy
Andrea Marx is passionate about positive reinforcement training and teaching people the kindest ways of interacting with their dogs. She believes that lasting behavior change takes patience and teamwork. Dogs are motivated by many things and she can find reinforcement that works; sometimes she just has to get creative! She wants you and your dog to live happily together, and she is confident she can help you reach your training goals.
Services
Freak On A Leash offers a variety of training options, including puppy training, manners and obedience training, and behavior modification to address behavioral challenges. They offer both group classes and private sessions. They also offer a day training option where a trainer will work with your dog one-on-one for a set number of sessions to reach your goals, ending with two follow up sessions to transfer the skills to you. They also offer a Puppy Train & Play option, which is a 4 hour program at their facility providing foundational skills training, enrichment, and socialization. All trainers listed here are certified professionals with extensive knowledge of positive reinforcement techniques.
Positive reinforcement centers on rewarding preferred behaviors, ensuring a pleasant learning journey for your dog. This humane approach is scientifically proven to be the most effective long-term training method, strengthening the bond between you and your pet. By consistently rewarding good behavior, your dog learns to associate actions with positive outcomes, leading to lasting improvements and a happier companion.
Yes, they are. Our trainers are adept in basic obedience or intricate behavioral challenges. Browse their profiles to identify a trainer who specializes in the particular issues you wish to address.
Simply click on the preferred trainer's profile to access their contact details. From there, you can get in touch to discuss your requirements and set up training appointments.
Group sessions offer a communal setting where your dog learns general obedience alongside other dogs. In contrast, private sessions grant focused attention, making them perfect for targeted behavior modifications or individualized training agendas.
All our trainers are committed to positive reinforcement techniques and steer clear of any harsh or punitive methods. Their primary goal is to make training a joyous journey for you and your dog.
Results depend on factors like your dog's nature, the specific behaviors in question, and your training consistency. While many clients observe improvements in just a few sessions, it's crucial to be patient and persistent.
Reach out to the trainer you're interested in to discuss possibly attending a session. It's a great way to get a feel for their approach and see if it aligns with your expectations.
