Her private behavioral consultations and training cover a variety of issues including: fearful, reactive and aggressive behaviors as well dog-human (children/baby) dynamics in the home. Danette shares her home with Ernie, a brown tabby with many extra toes, one human teenager, and a very tolerant husband. After losing her beloved Border Collie/Pitbull mix, Rufus to lymphoma last year, she and her family have now downsized and gone a totally different direction by adopting Boogie, a 20 pound fluffy mop-dog.
Training Philosophy
At DDO we use a scientific, evidence based method of training that is Cooperative, Effective and Fun! We practice fear-free training offering clients several different ways to work with their dogs all of which involve gentle, kind and fair techniques. We teach students using “mark & reward” training that can involve the use of a clicker, or a verbal marker if the client is not comfortable using a clicker. We do not use leash “corrections” and shock collars, choke chains or pinch/prong collars . We strive to help humans understand how their dogs think and learn so that they can live peaceful, happy and fulfilling lives with their canine companions!

Customer Reviews
Colleen from Los Angeles, CA: I started working with Cynthia from JWDT based on a referral from a close friend. I had just adopted Sunshine, my pandemic puppy, and was totally overwhelmed. Cynthia is a miracle worker. She introduced me to R+ training and has helped me form a wonderful and trusting bond with my pup. And all over Zoom! I never thought it was possible to accomplish what we did over a video call, but it totally worked! She's also coached me through so many of the frustrating moments of new puppy training that I feel she should double as a therapist! Sunshine and I are so happy to know Cynthia and for all the amazing things she's helped us achieve. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Larry from Cleveland Park, D.C.: We have had several rescue dogs over the years and used several dog trainers. Juliana DeWillems is the absolute best. She knows the canine mind and can teach humans. She was able in the very first session to show me how to stop certain behaviors and shape others in our 12 year old dog. Our aging rescue dog is now even better behaved and happier with the training we are both getting. Our dog no longer attacks noisy buses and knows the trick dog pose. Juliana is in a different league from all the other trainers we have ever had. I recommend her and look forward to working with her with our next dog.
Katie from Palm Bay, FL: JW Dog Training was a godsend when I rescued my 9-month old German shepherd mix. Her previous owners misused an e-collar on her and she was very sensitive and distrusting of the training process. With the help of Kat (who is ABSOLUTELY amazing!!) and the others at JWDT, I was able to help my dog integrate into a multi dog household, manage her behavioral issues and reactivity, as well as give her the best life. I absolutely can't thank you guys enough for all of the guidance and ideas you've provided throughout this whole training process! I look forward to future sessions with the trainers at JWDT!
Hannah from Arlington, VA: We love JW Dog Training! We got a rescue who started displaying some fearful behaviors. Wouldn't go outside, would barely eat, and was afraid of *everything.* With the help of Kat & JWDT (and anxiety meds), we've been able to build up her confidence and implement new management techniques to help her navigate those tough moments. We started with the four-pack Behavior Mod package, and it is *definitely* worth the time, money, and effort. Kat responds very quickly to our messages and includes helpful links and videos to supplement what we learn in a session. Juliana and her team lead with empathy, dedication, patience, and compassion.
Tori from Arlington, VA: So grateful for Kat's help! She helped me and my Frankie with anxiety after dog attack, loss of other pup and moving over 800 miles for work. Gave me some wonderful tools, games to teach and Frankie is doing so well! I wouldn't hesitate to reach out to her again! Highly recommend
Alex and Cat from Adams Morgan, D.C.: We are so grateful we found Juliana! We were really struggling with our sweet, sensitive dog's reactivity to other dogs in our busy city neighborhood. Juliana patiently and compassionately gave us the tools to overcome this challenge, and most importantly trained us on how to help him! Now, he can walk past almost any dog with no problem. When we added a second pup to our family, Juliana helped us understand their dynamics and find creative techniques to keep our dogs happy during the settling in period. And, Juliana has given us insights that serve as building blocks to help our dogs with any new challenges that arise. We can't recommend her enough!
Sarah from Arlington, VA: Juliana helped me and my 9 month old golden retriever work through some fear issues (noise sensitivity, fear of the dark etc) and through typical teenage pup issues. She's so knowledgeable and available to help when you have questions. I love that she has many training credentials and uses a positive approach. She is so easy to work with and never makes me feel badly about my dogs behaviors. I highly recommend!

Peggy Adams-Myers
Peggy is dedicated to educating people about animal behavior and helping them solve training and behavior challenges. Peggy’s love of science, animals and teaching come together in her work at Companion Animal Solutions. After many years working in medical research, solving problems and communicating complex scientific information, she decided to put those skills to use helping pet owners. Her degree in Health Education focused on effectively conveying information to modify human behavior – the first step in changing your pet’s behavior. Her empathetic and easy-going style is focused on making the mechanics of behavior change understandable for both her human clients and their pets.
Years ago, Peggy saw how the use of correction-based training classes with her own dogs resulted in fear and avoidance rather than a confident dog. She wanted to find a way to change her dogs’ behavior without resorting to frightening or hurting them. Peggy’s science background led her to seek out dog training methods based on research in animal behavior. She now trains using force-free methods that show the dog how it pays off to get things right, and eases fear and anxiety with proven methods to help the pet feel better about scary or upsetting situations.
Peggy is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA), Fear Free Certified Trainer (FFCP), and a graduate of the Northwest School of Canine Studies (CCS). She began her career as a dog trainer and behavior consultant interning with some of the top trainers in the Puget Sound. She is the former Director of Canine Safety and Training for Seattle-based Georgia Peaches Puppy Rescue, providing her behavior and training expertise to a large community of puppy and dog adopters.
Peggy has lived with cats and/or dogs for most of her life, and enjoys seeing the world from the animals’ perspective. She especially enjoys the challenge of working with fearful pets, and owners who are frustrated by their pet’s behavior.
Peggy is the owner and manager of Companion Animal Solutions. She currently spends her training time volunteering with a senior dog rescue in San Diego to help old dogs be more adoptable and comfortable in their new homes.
Training Philosophy
The Companion Animal Solutions dog training approach is as simple as it is revolutionary
We combine state-of-the-art science on animal behavior with an absolute commitment to humane and compassionate methods. We will never use or recommend methods that use force, fear, or pain. We are committed to working with the least intrusive, minimally aversive (LIMA) effective methods available to teach your pet, and you! These methods have been adopted by both the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC) and the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT).

Customer Reviews
“We had a great experience working with Peggy at Animal Companion Solutions. Before we worked with Peggy, we were having difficulties training our very reactive and fearful Aussie. After an in home consultation, 4 one-on-one’s, and consistent training by my husband and I, our pup has finally become a much more relaxed and happy dog! Peggy was very helpful and worked with us closely to figure out what exactly was setting him off and not only made us more aware of his body language but helped us figure out how to train him to make him feel safe when he was scared. I highly recommend Companion Animal Solutions to anyone who feels like they need help with training, especially for reactive dogs!” K.C. – Mukilteo
“I was a bit out of my comfort zone when I adopted my first large breed, high energy puppy! Actually, that’s an understatement. It was more of a “what have I done!” kind of thing. Addressing her biting, chewing, and jumping behaviors was a lot different and more urgent than with the small dogs I was used to. I wanted to be sure I was addressing all of my puppy’s needs in a proper and positive way. Peggy came to my home, evaluated my setting and my puppy, and left me with the knowledge, resources, and confidence I needed to raise a beautifully trained dog.” K.K. – Redmond

Name: Deborah Jean Gabbert
History:
Deborah's professional life has been a true “Trek” and taken many paths from scholar and educator of the art and science of human communication to working in the field of alternative dispute resolution to personal growth and enlightenment work with programs and coaching for people longing to live deeper, fuller, more potently embodied lives.
In 2011, she began a radical new phase of her life as a pet care companion - caring for and walking dogs (as well as other critters) through a fabulous locally owned and operated pet care service.
Deborah's life quite literally went to the dogs...
Initially, walking dogs was going to be an interim gig to bring in funds while doing something I love (spend time with canines) and allowing time for my soul to rest, revive and reorient, to rediscover purpose and passion. Little did I know then that spending time cavorting with and caring for dogs would reveal itself AS my future, reawakening a dream from my youth of working with animals. What I thought would be a temporary dalliance has become instead a wildly fulfilling plunge into dogdom.
When I began spending my days with dogs, I also immersed myself in personal study of canine behavior, communication and learning in order to provide the best possible experience for each and every dog in my care. In 2013 I enrolled in a local Canine Educator Internship Program with the intention of earning my credentials as a Certified Professional Dog Trainer and became owner and operator of Rex-Treks.
Training Philosophy:
Deborah's approach to educating dogs and humans arises from the belief that living and learning with a dog is a journey you take together. Sometimes the path is clear and full of promise, and other times it can feel arduous and murky. Whether you are raising your first puppy or you have lots of experience sharing your life with a dog, my intention is to support your journey, providing perspective, clarity, solutions, and strategies for success, along with the possibility of even more joy.
My training practice is sourced in force-free, positive reinforcement, games-based dog training that includes but goes beyond traditional “obedience school behaviors” like Sit, Down, and Stay. Dogs are learning 24/7, regardless of whether we have set aside time specifically to focus on training, so I am dedicated to empowering dogs to make “good choices,” fostering connection and cooperation in your daily interactions that, when woven together, create the fabric of life with your dog. Private training is also about ensuring that the dog’s humans have the skills and concepts they need to create life long, rewarding companionship with their canine family member.
Using cleverly designed, deceptively simple training games, exercises and strategies, we grow essential concepts like connection, calmness, confidence, optimism, self-control, frustration tolerance and so much more. Concepts are the ingredients from which life skills are created. Training games provide a structure for developing skills and rehearsing success while having so much fun the learning sneaks up on you.
The power of games-based learning is the spirit of play. Playful learning preserves and enhances the relationship between the learner and teacher, growing your bond of mutual trust and understanding as you navigate the journey together. Teaching through play and games helps transform knowing how to do stuff into practical life and teamwork skills, and appears to accelerate the integration of new skills. According to the late child development psychologist, Dr. Karen Purvis, “It takes approximately 400 repetitions to create a new synapse in the brain - unless it is done with play, in which case, it takes between 10 and 20 repetitions.”

“We first met Deborah during puppy training classes at our local dog daycare, and it was the best thing that could have happened to our Black Lab, Ares. Since then, Deborah has been an integral part of Ares’s life, from follow-on training sessions to twice-weekly walks. Her expertise and passion for dogs transformed Ares from a playful puppy into a well-mannered, obedient adult dog. Deborah’s influence extends beyond training; she has become Ares’s favorite human. The excitement and affection he shows whenever he sees her are heartwarming and truly show the special bond they share. We are immensely grateful to Deborah for her patience, skill, and the genuine love she shows Ares. She’s not just a dog walker or trainer; she’s a cherished part of our family’s journey with our beloved pet. Thank you, Deborah, for making such a positive impact in our lives!

“Deborah's approach to incorporating the whole family in training made it possible for all of us to make it through the difficult puppy stage and develop a strong bond with our yellow lab Luna. Her wealth of resources and follow up with materials was a life saver as we incorporated her training suggestions into our home regimen. Her kindness and patience to our rambunctious teenage lab (and its humans) has never wavered. Her training techniques have allowed us to connect and enjoy our Luna in everyday activities like loose leash walks and energetic ball fetching. I cannot recommend Deborah and Rex Treks enough!

“Deborah is without a doubt the most kind hearted, passionate, and knowledgeable dog trainer in the Seattle area. It is so clear how much she not only cares about her people clients, but truly loves her doggy clients through and through. Deborah has been a wealth of knowledge for us as we continue to learn how to train our dog. We’ve used Deborah for every stage of training - from puppy to teenager to adult dog, Deborah has been there with us through it all. She goes above and beyond in her care. With links to resources and training materials, emails and recaps, spending extra time, and texts between sessions, I cannot imagine having a dog without Deborah’s help. She’s truly just an incredible person and dog trainer. Thank you Deborah!

She really takes the time to listen to your concerns as a dog owner and clearly loves what she does. Deb provided us with games and ideas to help transform their behavior. It is a lot of work, but we are so fortunate to have her as a resource and grateful to be her clients!

“Words cannot express how much Deborah’s help has changed our household. We adopted a large Cathoula Leopard Hound, Spirit, with high energy and attention demands, extreme anxiety and very poor interaction behaviors with dogs and people. After a month we thought we had an impossible task ahead of us. We stopped having guests, could not eat through a meal without constant barking, complaints from neighbors and were constantly nervous on walks with her. Then we were introduced to Deborah. Deborah didn’t solve all the problems for us, instead she gave us confidence that the problems could be solved with time and patience. She gave us plenty of information and ideas on how to work with our pet. Taught us to be observant and adaptable, to work with Spirits temperament and specific traits, and to be firm but gentle with her so that she would eventually mimic our behaviors. Eight months on and we are in a very different place. Spirit has learned to be gentle in play and her interactions with others, (dogs and people), are adorable, she is playful, constantly willing to learn new things and finding her place in our home. She will always be spirited and demands her spot on the couch, but she loves other dogs, (all types), meals are a pleasure and we finally have guests over again. There is still much to be done, (the mailman, squirrels and that fiendish neighbor cat), but we know with Deborahs help we can probably solve most of those challenges as well.

“We are so very grateful for Deborah! We first met her at a training class that our anxious, high-needs rescue dog, Buckley, struggled in. We saw the way that she helped him through that class, and knew that her compassion and expertise would be so helpful outside of class. In the nearly 8 years she's been walking and training our little guy, she is constantly finding solutions to help him move past whatever new fear or anxiety he may be experiencing (and with him, there's always something) to help him feel more confident. And she gives us so many tools to help him in the day-to-day. She is an expert trainer and wonderful human who really gets how to support dog parents! And our dog loves her so much. We can't recommend her highly enough.

She has helped our sweet Bea build trust and confidence as well as educate us about how Bea sees the world and how we can support her best life. Deborah continues to adapt her trainings to meet Bea where she is to help her continue to blossom. We're so grateful for her compassion, knowledge, skills and dedication.

“Like many families, we got a puppy during the height of the pandemic. Our Labrador retriever, Kai, was so sweet and calm…until we started attending group training classes or tried to take him on a walk. Kai was a great big ball of energy who never met a stranger. Unfortunately his over excitement for other dogs and people got us kicked out of those group training sessions (twice!). We needed help and needed it quick. Deborah has been such an instrumental part of helping Kai become the amazing dog he is today. She hasn’t just trained Kai. She trained us!

“Deborah has helped us with all of our dogs over the years, but most recently we did consulting, one-on-one training and group classes at Great Dog with Deborah when we got our puppy Ellie. We were committed to crate training and she had kinds of good tips on that and how to raise a happy and obedient pup. All the training paid off big time! Deborah shared endless resources and her talents with us to discover all of our pups strengths and now we have a dog who is confident, obedient and wonderful around all people and other dogs.

She took over ownership of Fuzzy Buddy’s in September 2005.
Training Philosophy
We are committed to using only modern, science-based methods to build good dog behavior in
our daycare playroom and in our classes. Luckily for both dogs and humans, modern dog training
is much more fun than all those old-fashioned dog training strategies like leash jerks, scruff shakes, squirt bottles and alpha rolls. You’ll both enjoy the time you spend together training and that pleasant time together will be a strong foundation for a great relationship!
Though using physical punishment such as leash corrections CAN result in a trained dog, what suffers is the relationship between dog and owner. We believe having a strong relationship based on mutual respect and trust is an important element to shaping a well-mannered dog that is a joy to live with.
Positive dog training doesn’t rely on physical punishment, force or coercion. Instead the focus is on rewarding the good behavior you want to see more of. The result is an effective dog training style that is fun for both you and your dog!

Now those of us who have benefited from an unfair system have work to do. As professionals dedicated to the science of behavior change, we understand the difficult steps we must all take to confront these issues and work toward positive change:
It is no longer enough to be non-racist; we must be anti-racist. Black Lives Matter.

– Redmond
“I am quite proud to say that we have made some substantial progress in the house training. All improvement is thanks to you and your clear instructions. Thank you so much.” – M.L. – Seattle
“Hi Ruth, I want to thank you again for doing such a great job teaching me and my children how to start training Max a better way. I was so impressed by the adjustments he made and how well he responded to positive reinforcement. I didn’t grow up that way, neither did my husband so being creatures of habit, we have always resorted to negative focus, disciplining and correcting “bad behavior” more than reinforcing positive ones. Seeing how important that this is for Max and ourselves has given me a confidence that I didn’t have before in training him. It’s less stressful!” – K.K. – Woodinville

Deborah's approach to incorporating the whole family in training made it possible for all of us to make it through the difficult puppy stage and develop a strong bond with our yellow lab Luna.
The Mansisidor'sLuna's Family
My approach to educating dogs and humans arises from the belief that living and learning with a dog is a journey you take together.

We first met Deborah during puppy training classes at our local dog daycare, and it was the best thing that could have happened to our Black Lab, Ares.

Deborah is without a doubt the most kind hearted, passionate, and knowledgeable dog trainer in the Seattle area.

Deb at Rex Treks is the dog training guru! She leads with kindness and compassion when helping train our dogs. Her knowledge and support are endless and always delivered with joy. She really takes the time to listen to your concerns as a dog owner and clearly loves what she does. Deb provided us with games and ideas to help transform their behavior. It is a lot of work, but we are so fortunate to have her as a resource and grateful to be her clients!

Words cannot express how much Deborah’s help has changed our household.

We are so very grateful for Deborah!

Deborah has been an extraordinary resource working with us and our rescue dog who is, in Deborah's words, equal parts curious and afraid. She has helped our sweet Bea build trust and confidence as well as educate us about how Bea sees the world and how we can support her best life. Deborah continues to adapt her trainings to meet Bea where she is to help her continue to blossom. We're so grateful for her compassion, knowledge, skills and dedication.

Like many families, we got a puppy during the height of the pandemic.

Deborah has helped us with all of our dogs over the years, but most recently we did consulting, one-on-one training and group classes at Great Dog with Deborah when we got our puppy Ellie.

Oscar has come such a long way from that first puppy class where he just wanted to run under the table and hide. I enjoyed every class of yours that we took. I always learned something new, and it was so encouraging to see Oscar learning and growing along with me. I just wanted to thank you for all of the work you put into these classes. It never goes unnoticed.

We worked with Deborah to address skepticism with our golden retriever puppy, Lou. When we began, Lou had a difficult time feeling confident in leashed walks, was scared when we brought on Amazon boxes, and would cower when large trucks drove by or trash cans made noise. Deborah helped us understand that these behaviors were due to Lou’s confidence (or lack thereof), and gave us practical training exercises to help Lou build confidence with new experiences and exposure. Years later, we still think of how empathetic and kind Deborah was with Lou, and how she opened our eyes to the root of Lou’s behavior concerns. She enabled us to better support him as he developed. We highly recommend working with Deborah!

Her dog Mango inspired her to throw aside her work as an artist and devote her life to the dogs back in January 2000. She established City Critters, a dog walking and training service.
