Linda Brennen, CPDT-KA (Certified Professional Dog Trainer – Knowledge Assessed), has been a dog trainer for over 30 years. She earned her Associate Degree in Animal Health and worked as a Licensed Veterinary Technician for over 10 years. She also has a Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology from the University of California at Berkeley.
After college, Linda had the good fortune to attend a seminar on Puppy Socialization and Preventing Dog Aggression. It was presented by Dr. Ian Dunbar, world-renowned dog behavior expert and founder of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT). After the seminar, she studied with Dr. Dunbar, and began teaching classes for his company, Sirius Puppy Training, a year later. During that time, Linda also devoted a year to raising a puppy to become a service dog for Canine Companions for Independence.
Over the next fifteen years, Linda started dog training programs at several of the military bases where she and her husband were stationed. In 2005, while stationed in San Antonio, Linda volunteered at the Humane Society, where she trained shelter dogs waiting for adoption. During that time she helped with rescue efforts following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Also in San Antonio, Linda and her Bernese Mountain Dog, Kees, were certified as Delta Pet Partners. Together they visited patients at the military hospital and participated in reading programs at local elementary schools.
When her husband retired from the military in 2006, Linda and her family settled in Colorado Springs. She continues to teach dog training classes, and volunteers her time with service dog and rescue organizations. She also teaches dog safety classes in the community as a licensed presenter for Family Paws licensed presenter with Dogs & Storks classes. Linda established Canine Coach, Inc. in September of 2009 and moved her business to her own training center in 2016.

Marie with "Zen"
I was desperate; my dog was a puller and I was at the end of my rope (leash, more accurately). I'd come to dread our walks because my dog was clearly in control and I, obviously, was not. It was a battle of wills and I was on the losing end. I got Jen's name and number from a friend and made a call. Jen arrived at my doorstep on time ready to begin our training. My dog loved her immediately and I loved that she was training my dog (and me) with a positive reward system that we could both feel good about. She's both kind and patient and it's clear she knows what she's teaching because after just one session with the skills she taught us, I've already seen a huge improvement in my dog's behavior. I wish I'd called her sooner.
Marcella with "Izzy"
In 2021, my husband flew to Santa Cruz to pick up a new addition to our family - a dog named Izzy. She was a stunning 2-year-old Rhodesian Rottweiler mix with a BIG attitude. BIG as in ready to battle anyone who crossed her path, especially our neighbors. The sheriff told us so. After that call we knew if we didn't get help immediately someone was going to get hurt. So, I asked my vet (VCA Northwest Animal Hospital) if they could recommend a highly-qualified dog trainer. They suggested a 15-year vet tech/dog whisperer, Jennifer Skaggs. Jennifer arrived ready to help and wasn't phased when Izzy tried to intimidate her. Our dog whisperer remained self-assured and fearless. Izzy connected with her right away. With that, we hit the trail so Jennifer could get the pulse of Izzy's habits and triggers. Using this information she developed a personalized training plan that worked for my schedule and budget, lessened my workload and made major positive shifts to Izzy's behavior within 2 months. Jennifer gave me the tools I needed to foster mutual trust, set clear boundaries, minimize crisis situations and use rewards consistently to get the results I wanted from Izzy. Over the course of those 2 months Izzy went from terrorizing the public to calmly walking through The Manitou Springs Labor Day Art Festival with over 1k strangers. Thank you Jennifer for helping me create a more obedient dog and for giving me peace of mind that Izzy will respond the first time I give her a command. In the end, the money I spent for your canine behavior expertise was well worth it. I'm sure the neighbors would agree!
Liz with "Murphy"
Jen has been an absolute godsend to us our our puppy. She's been working with us for about a year, and we have leveled up so quickly in our time working with her. Jen is patient, a clear communicator, and takes the extra time to get to know you and your dog so that she can tailor her training where it will stick. I was really nervous about getting a dog, but having Jen as a resource has totally changed that for me. She's gone so far as to help me work on my own confidence and assertiveness, so that I can be a good leader for my dog. She really has the mentality of helping you become the trainer for your dog, and I love that! I get compliments from people all the time about how advanced my puppy is, and we have Jen to thank for that!
